Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative and curious children who are attending school like never before. The students in my class use devices to log into morning meeting and Google classroom to participate in our day to day activities. The children have come together to form a kind community with each child exploring, ”Who am I?” For many of the children, this class is their first experience in school.

Together with parents and caregivers, they are exploring curriculum and learning through synchronous and asynchronous activities.

Many students do not have access to technology, some using a borrowed device, a mobile device and with little to no WiFi.

My Project

This project will provide each one of my students with their own personal At Home Learning backpack and Yoga backpack. This backpack has developmentally appropriate materials that align with our lessons and our early childhood curriculum. This creates a tremendous relief for families who would need to use household materials or store bought supplies to complete our learning at home.

Many of my students lack the necessary supplies for day to day learning or need to share with a sibling.

For students learning remotely outside of the school building, access to art and writing materials provides them with experiences off screen. Children learn through play and these supplies allow us to "play together" although we are a screen away. Students would be able to view our video lessons, open their backpacks and create work sampling to be included in their moving up portfolio.

The physical activity cards provide students with visuals during synchronous learning to move their bodies as well as engage with caregivers supporting their learning. This project helps my class bridge the school to home connection and allows an unprecedented year to be a more successful one.
