Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 5th and 6th grade students in an urban community where most students are living below the poverty line. Despite the challenges my students may be facing outside of the classroom, they are a group of bright, energetic and enthusiastic learners. They come to school striving to learn and do their very best each and every day. Every student comes with a unique set of gifts and learning styles to contribute to our school community. As a district, we have felt the blow of school budget cuts and funding. I feel lucky to be in a place where the teachers, staff, and parents all work as a team to make up for these deficits. I believe our children deserve the basic necessities to be successful not only inside the classroom but outside the classroom as well.

My Project

My students are an amazing group that strives every single day to do their best. It is a hardship that they come from a low-income area and are not always equipped with the essential supplies that they need to be successful during the school year. Even a simple sharpened pencil can go a long way for these students.

This project would provide my students with supplies that would make them excited to come to class each and every day.

I would love for them to not have to worry about coming to class prepared, and rather, focusing on what is most important and enjoying their new school year!
