This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is full of life. My students are in a special needs setting, but that does not stop them from chasing their dreams. Math does not come easy for them, but I know they enjoy learning. Everyday I have at least 3 students who stay after school for help or because my class is a safe place.

The students in my class are interested in how math can be used in their life.

I have one student who knows every stop in the new your city subway system. He enjoyed the unit on scaling subway maps. Another one of the students in my classroom enjoys playing basketball and is on the school team. He became interested in math when I was able to implement basketball in to our unit on word problems. Some of my students require special needs, but that does not stop them from trying to learn. I enjoy using my classroom as a small interactive space for the students to learn how math can be utilize in the community. Counting money and connecting how math can be used to help them with other subjects.

My Project

The whiteboards and dry erase markers are going to be used for a math activity in which the students see the problem in their notes or blackboard. They are given time to solve the question on the whiteboard and then raises the board so that I may see the answer. This makes solving the problem exciting for the students and sometimes can be developed in to a game. I ordered a pencils as prizes for the students. Having a new colorful pencil can make a difference in a student doing their work. Some of the items I have on the list is specifically for my student who cannot sit still. I believe they should not suffer and miss out on their education because they have a condition. Using a different method or tool helps the student focus on their classwork and not what is disturbing them.

Donations will help my class understand the importance of education and how it can effect their life directly.

utilizing fun games with the tools provided can make learning fun and not dull. My goal is to change the way learning happens in a classroom. I remember being in class listening to a lecture. I did not retain the information because it did not relate to me. Now I can teach students how math is a life long skill and can be engaging.
