My Students

"There needs to be a lot more emphasis on what a child can do instead of what they cannot do" - Dr. Temple Grandin . For this project I would love to start to give my students the tools they need to grow and develop.

I am a brand new teacher, working in a brand new classroom for students who have Autism and are on the alternate curriculum.

In my classroom I am trying to create a visually structured educational classroom for students who are in Kindergarten through Second grade.The students in my class are all English Language Learners. The students in my class are full of life and enjoy coming to school. My classroom is on an elementary campus, and we are the only Autism/ Alternate curriculum classroom. I would describe our school as safe environment for our students. We are a Title One school and all students are provided with free meals. We do our best to promote further learning for our students, such as intervention,tutoring before and after school. In addition we offer Saturday school to students who need extra support in English Language Arts.

My Project

The students will use the items I had requested for many things. The color printer I will use to create their visual schedules, task cards, photos and visuals for the songs that I use. The lamination will then be used to laminate all the color pictures that I had printed to maximize the use of the pictures. The manipulative's will be used as hands on activities for the students to learn academically and develop language. Lastly, music plays such a huge part in my classroom. Children who have Autism really enjoy music and movement. At this time I do not have any music instruments and would love to incorporate actual instruments in my morning circle time.

The donations will improve my classroom in such a huge way because we are starting as a new class and do not have much.

My students will succeed with the color pictures that will be used in their daily schedule and routine. The manipulative will promote hands on learning for the students. These items will help my students grow academically, socially, and promote language in my classroom. Thank you.
