My Students

My classes consist of great kids that I share with four other teachers.They come from many different backgrounds and socio-economic statuses. Even though I have students who have a difficult time bringing the basic supplies to school, they come to school ready and eager to learn.

You can see their faces light up as they watch real-life phenomenon unfold with the materials they are given to work with.

The students that come from lower economic backgrounds dive in and tend to take the lead when these activities are taking place. I just love watching them explore and develop a deeper love for science.

My Project

Interactive notebooking is a great way to keep students engaged with the learning that takes place from our investigations. Data collecting requires that students cut out and glue into their notebooks diagrams, tables, and graphs. As students conduct investigations and gather data, red/blue colored pencils are used to create the double-line graph to show how different variables behaved during the investigation. Being able to see the difference in the data helps students draw conclusions (one of the last steps to the scientific method). Having a pencil sharpener is mandatory to keep the colored pencils read for use.

Upon completion of lessons, a formative assessment strategy that students like for me to incorporate is the use of whiteboards.

Having the fine tip expo markers will allow for them to explain their thinking when they provide an answer
