This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of my students come from low-income families and qualify for free lunch. My students are friendly, caring, generous and inquisitive learners. The majority of the students in my school are English Language Learners, some with special needs.

My students are excited about language learning on a daily basis.

They are excited about the prospect of expanding their knowledge of language and cultures of other countries. They get a taste of learning about other cultures through Social Studies, but are eager to learn more! They constantly give their all to take control of their own learning. Every day they bring a smile to my face and remind me why I love to do what I do. It is truly a wonderful, rewarding experience teaching students who possess such a passion for the world!

My Project

By donating to this project, you will be investing in a fun classroom experience for early elementary children learning Spanish as an additional language! The 2017-2018 school year will be the school's third year providing Spanish instruction as a foreign language. The program has given students a deeper understanding of the world, sensitivity and understanding of other cultures, and has also helped prepare them for middle school.

Through the materials requested, my students will be able to learn language in a fun, meaningful way.

As children who are emerging as readers, the Spanish alphabet books will be used to build upon their literacy skills. The Spanish/English Building Language Photo Library will serve to build the vocabulary of both my Spanish learners and English language learners. The materials requested, such as the markers, colored pencils, and paper will support any classroom projects the children may create. Through playing games in Spanish, such as the floor puzzle and the Bingo game, my students will learn to use and practice language in an authentic manner that is engaging for them as well.

Our school's vision is to provide Spanish language instruction to all students starting at pre-kindergarten upward, all year round! Donations to this project will help create an environment in which authentic, meaningful language learning will occur. My students will now have the opportunity to fall in love with language learning, in a fun, meaningful way. Through these games and materials, my students will learn language with more ease and experience the multiple benefits of bilingualism (and in many cases, multilingualism). This will be my first year teaching through this expanded program and I am very excited to be a part of this ambitious yet wonderful endeavor!
