I teach in an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom. My students are a very diverse bunch that walk into the classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I make sure to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Every day is an adventure with many hidden treasures to discover. I feel very fortunate to influence their lives, as they do mine.
My Project
Distant learning is quite different from what we know as "regular" school, especially with the younger grades. Students need structure, routines, and materials.
After experiencing 69 days of distant learning with a class of second graders, I learned what we need to try to make it better for the unknown upcoming school year- materials and supplies both for school and home!
Structure and routines can happen with distant learning but not without the proper materials. Last school year, students that had supplies at home were more successful at completing the assignments during remote learning and were able to take pictures of their work and upload them to the platform we were using.
Now, with the combination of blended learning and remote learning my students need these supplies even more.
If my students have their own dry erase boards at home, they can use them to show math strategies, a quick response during whole group or small groups and mark up words for word study. If my students have folders and notebooks designated for specific subjects, they will have a place to do their work and when/if they come into school we will know where to find each assignment. With pencils, erasers, crayons, colored pencils and the other materials we can start off the unknown school year with the supplies needed to make this new way of learning easier.
