Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students all come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds near the heart of Houston, Texas. They do not have many opportunities outside of the classroom to grow in their learning because their parents are often busy working and cannot help them.

My students are very eager to learn, and I want to be able to give them as much knowledge as I can while they are with me, as well as to teach them how to learn on their own for when they are at home.

The classroom is an opportunity for them to safely explore and grow as future members of our society.

My Project

Art can be incorporated into everything in the classroom. When I mention that we will be doing any craft projects, my students get giddy with excitement. I scour every box and cabinet I have the necessary supplies to make sure that I can offer my students a variety of options to allow them to be creative with what we have available.

Learning is more than pencil and paper, especially in kindergarten.

My students love to use the dab paints to represent numbers on ten frames, create shapes with the craft stems, or make lap books in reading with the card stock. We go through glue like crazy in our class! Integrating art into our lessons will help engage and reach students with different learning styles. My students get so excited when they have the opportunity to be creative. I know that incorporating art into our math and reading lessons will help reach all my students at their various levels.
