This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is located in a low-income urban area: 100% of my students receive free lunch. A majority of my students live in federal housing projects. Many cannot afford basic school supplies.
Despite their living environment, my students have a zest for life and for learning.
They are wise and insightful. They have grit and want to do well in life and school.
It is our goal to provide the tools necessary to help every student take ownership of their education and gain expert experience in many fields of study. We would be so grateful to have your support!
My Project
These items will be used daily during small group, whole group, and individual time in the classroom. Writing utensils will support everything from literacy to math while markers will support creativity or even color coding for that learners that need visual supports. Scissors and glue will be used for individual vocabulary building. Students will need dry erase markers for working on white boards at their desks.
The supplies of this project are specific to my students' needs: graph notebooks are hard for families to find, but in the hands of a fourth grader they are the key to understanding fractions and decimals; sticky notes are costly, but in the hands of a fourth grader they allow for thoughtful annotations and deep discussions; and quality pencils create writers that never quit.
We will be using these supplies throughout the year for Math, Reading, Virginia Studies, and Science.
