My Students

We are a sixth grade team of 74 students in suburban Pittsburgh, PA. Our school houses grades 4-6 and has about 1,000 students. The sixth grade students love being the big fish in the small pond for a year before officially becoming middle schoolers. With the creation of a schoolwide STEAM room, Compass Studio, STEAM concepts are integrated into many classroom lessons and activities. We love to read, problem solve and collaborate. We take pride in our learning and work hard to prepare for the future.

My Project

I took over the school's Garden Club this year with great excitement! In the fall, we were able to build a new garden bed and find the courtyard compost bin its new permanent home. We worked hard to prune and clear the old flowers and plants in preparation of our spring meetings.

Unfortunately, due to school being held remotely, the spring meetings will not be held.

We now look forward to the fall with hope!

Our elementary school was once used as a high school. It is an older building with built in courtyards on the interior of the school. The Garden Club is focusing on beautifying the interior courtyards for the students to enjoy!

Club members shared supplies that I was able to bring from home in the fall. We are hoping to have our own school supplies for next year. Garden gloves to prevent splinters and dirty hands, different sizes of shovels, and garden shears will make our jobs much easier when we are able to return to the garden! A storage container will then keep all of our supplies safe and in one place.

We have so many great ideas for our garden projects! We are hoping to get our hands dirty in the fall and make our dreams a reality!
