My Students

Our Title I school is located in a very diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn. My students are 5 years-old. They are an enthusiastic and hard-working bunch. The spectrum of developmental levels in kindergarten is vast, and I am working hard to meet the needs of all my students. Many of my kindergarteners are growing up in low-income homes and do not have access to the learning materials at home needed to promote their academic growth.

Regardless of the challenges they face, my students are highly motivated and love coming to school.

They look forward to playing, making art, learning to read and all the other wonderful things the world of kindergarten has to offer.

My Project

This school year is going to be a challenging one. We are starting the year in a blended learning mode, which means the students will be in school 2-3 days a week and learn remotely the rest of the time. Many families in our school are struggling financially and can't afford to purchase supplies needed for the school year. Also, severe budget cuts means the teachers are not getting any funds for supplies. I am reaching out to DonorsChoose for a variety of supplies such as pencils, dry-erase markers, crayons, folders, and art paper.

All these supplies are essential for a successful year in Kindergarten.

My students will be able to use these supplies in school as well as at home. I will put together supply pouches for each child, so that the same materials are not used by multiple students during the pandemic.

It would be great to have all these materials at the beginning of the year so my students can draw, paint, write and create on the first day of Kindergarten.

With your help, my students will have enough supplies to last us through the year.
