My Students

Our second grade classroom is full of love. We have built a classroom that encourages us to learn and love despite the many obstacles that we all face on a daily basis and particularly the obstacles that my students face living in a low income neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. My students work hard everyday, putting forth effort in all they do.

I strive to provide my students with hope, the hope that is required to be the roses that grow through the concrete.

Our school is located in the Englewood neighborhood on the Southside of Chicago. My students have dreams for their futures like all children. But growing up in Englewood and having the dreams that they have require large amounts of hope to achieve them. My students face obstacles at every point in their lives including facing trauma that most children and adults don't ever face in their lifetimes.

Our classroom is an explosion of color, love, and hope. My students deserve the chance to grow and thrive even in the most inhospitable places. Our classroom provides hope for future and a safe place to be loved and nurtured.

My Project

This project is about getting basic supplies that my students need in order to make learning even happen. Last year I spent a bulk of my salary on school supplies throughout the year, so this would help me be able to personally fund field trips, clothes for my students or fun celebration days.

Not only does this project directly help students do their work in order to learn, it is also about supporting families who need it.

We use our supplies in our classroom, community style, which allows for all students to have access to the same supplies regardless of whether they brought in their own supplies. It is important to me to support my students' families and by providing students with supplies that their families were unable to purchase is one way that I do that. Not only does this project directly help students do their work in order to learn, it is also about supporting families who need it.
