Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever felt frustration because you need to do a job and you just don't have the tools you need to do it? A band without sheet music cannot perform. Clarinet and saxophone players need reeds in order to make music.

My students live in an urban city in Florida where the population is made up of mainly minority families of low socio-economic status.

Our school is the largest middle school of our district. Our students are eager to learn and always give their best effort. However, it is difficult to succeed without basic supplies such as mouthpieces and ligatures.

My Project

Our school is relatively new and so we actually have plenty of instruments in our band program. However, the new band room did not come with sheet music! Our music library is very bare and as our band program grows, we have more students that want to read and perform as much music as possible. Our students would benefit from performing titles such as "Regal Fanfare and March" for our concert band and "Mack The Knife".

The funding of this project will inspire my students to continue to strive for excellence, not only in their academic classes, but in their music performance as well.

Their musical experience will flourish as they are exposed to more band literature.
