Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 3rd grade students are bright, curious, and ready to be challenged and exposed to brand new topics and concepts. The majority of my students are Hispanic and come from low-income households.

These future leaders are an amazing group of learners with individual learning needs.

They are tech-savvy, but many of them don't have access to technology outside of these school walls.

Third grade is a big year for my students because it is the first year they take the state exam. This test determines if they are promoted to the next grade level or not. My goal is to ease their worries and build their confidence as readers and writers. I plan to show them that reading and writing is essential to our community, and can be highly enjoyable as well!

My Project

This year I plan to incorporate new ways to teach Reading and Writing in my classroom. A new laptop and related accessories would be a great addition to our Reading center. Students will be able to conduct research, complete projects, and use the laptop and accessories to access relevant online digital media and libraries.

Reading is such a vital part of life....and I take my job of building strong readers very seriously.

I want to make reading exciting for my students by finding new ways to present and discuss literature. One way to do this is to have them use the video camera to film, edit, and participate in various activities that they can share with parents and other students. Some ideas include book talks, author interviews, skits, book vlogs, and book commercials.

Other materials requested will help organize and make our classroom a pleasant and safe learning environment. The shelving units will be used to display classroom library books. The color and black ink will be used throughout the year for various purposes, such as a parent newsletter created by the kids, posters, flash cards, and projects.
