Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing human beings! They are full of life and have endless potential to do so many wonderful things. My school is a Title I school in a poverty stricken community. Our school receives a grant that allows every child to have free breakfast and lunch served at school due to food insecurities at home. Many of our parents struggle to help meet the needs of school supplies and the needs of their children. Regardless of these circumstances, my students overcome! They are learning how to face challenges and grow stronger academically, socially and emotionally preparing them for the next level of life.

I believe that these students deserve every opportunity this world has to offer and I am determined to help them get it.

These students can change the world with their brilliant minds and can climb out of the cycle of poverty through the gift of education. They will learn that the world is theirs for the taking with hard work, dedication, and knowledge.

My Project

...The two of them walked in, smiled, and sat down staring blankly at the classroom around them. The rest of the class was talking, shaking hands, and reading. That's when I realized those two students didn't speak English.

To reach all students, we have to give them books they can read in their native language!

I've started to work with these two students daily on english. They're improving day by day :) ...but I can do more. I MUST DO MORE! When I noticed a Dog Man book in Spanish at our book fair I knew I had buy copies for our non-english students.

Not only that, but by having this Dav Pilkey set in Spanish & English, students will be able to compare & contrast the texts; but also gain an appreciation for the other cultures & learn new words.

Most importantly, now these students can share their love for the same books and build friendships!
