My Project

Since COVID-19, I've noticed that most students at our school do not come with school supplies. It can make it difficult for students to focus on academic learning, when they're worried about not having the supplies they need to learn. I strive to always have supplies for my students to use, but at this point in the school year we are out of pencils, glue sticks, tape, and our markers are drying out.

Many of our students are also hungry and simply cannot afford breakfast or lunch.

Teachers like me supply food for student out of pocket, because we know that hungry students cannot focus on their academics. Since 2007, I've used Donors Choose to help get snacks, and breakfasts for my students. I'm grateful this organization exists to help teachers shoulder the burden of feeding our students.

When I provide students with snacks or supplies, it instantly helps me build a relationship with them, because they know that I care. Caring also fosters a sense of "belonging" at school, and when students feel like they belong, they can focus on academic learning because their other needs are met.
