My Project

Hi! I am a new Elementary Dean of Students. We are a Title 1 School with beautiful amazing students! These students need love and structure and consistency and boundaries. We have a behavior structure in place that I know will be successful but I am needing some supplies to make my "Success Room" (In School Suspension Room) a place to reset and make positive changes.

I am looking to build a Calm Corner to reset the students to allow them to learn.

Adding a calming box or toolkit with sensory tools and fidgets will help students refocus and decompress from the stress they were feeling. These tools that I am requesting such as books and sensory toys will allow the students to utilize calming strategies. When a student is struggling in a classroom to focus and showing negative behavior, I will be able to bring the student to my classroom and attempt to de-escalate them as well as find out what they are struggling with and get them back into the mindset to rejoin the classroom successfully. The books and sensory items will give me the opportunity to meet the students where they are.

I am looking for snacks to give to students that come to school hungry and can't function properly because of hunger. A large population of our students get themselves up in the mornings and walk themselves to school every day. We provide breakfast and lunch for free for the students but breakfast ends at a certain time and our students have food insecurities. Often, we have students that cannot focus or struggle mentally in the mornings because they didn't get to eat breakfast. I would use the snacks as a behavior management strategy. It will enhance student behavior and allow successful learning.
