My Students

"Oh yeah, I read that in the news this morning," is something I'd love to hear out of my students' mouths. I believe Junior Scholastic is the way to reach this goal. Current news at middle school levels.

My Title I school community is low socioeconomic status, all my students face challenges, but everyone works hard and works together to make each day a learning and growing day.

My kids are strong. Each individual works hard, tries again, and plans better for next time. We call ourselves a family, and we ALL (parents, kids, faculty, and neighborhood) work together to help everyone reach success. Everyone has their bad days.

My Project

In middle level Social Studies, there is a current event due every Wednesday. With the Scholastic Junior magazines, many aspects of this seemingly simple assignment will be enhanced. First, the issues will become a routine for us as a class. Second, this takes some of the onus of printing an article or getting an article of the newspaper off the student. The newspaper articles are often too difficult to decode or the interest level is too mature. The Scholastic issues will also keep students away from the shootings, rapes, and murders articles found all too often in the paper. Also, Scholastic Junior will provide appropriate non-fiction spanning a variety of genres. I also look forward to discussing the issues and incorporating them into our daily lessons as they apply. The chart paper, markers, and laminator are vital accessories to creating interactive activities and conducting investigative inquiry.

We do not have access to many resources in our school as the budgets crunch and it gets harder to supply classrooms with necessities for learning.

Scholastic Junior will enhance reading, global awareness, and provide a well-rounded resource for learning.
