My Students

Our school corporation is a rural district, trying to equip our students with the skills and experiences to be successful in our ever-changing world. I have the privilege to teach first grade, in our small rural district.

My first grade students are excited about the world around them.

As their teacher, it is my goal to create opportunities to make them curious about the world around them. My goal is to empower them to ask questions and find answers. My students are world changers.

My Project

I am requesting a Delta Science Module Using Your Senses Complete Kit that features twelve hands-on activities and the Delta Science reader, and introduces students to the inner workings of the five senses of the body's amazing communication network.

Students will use the materials to explore how their five senses help them understand and interpret the world around them.

Students use lenses and prisms to create images and colors, explore depth perception, measure their fields of vision and they find out how each sensory organ works by examining their structures. Sound waves and ear drums are modeled by experimenting with tuning forks, cones and membranes and a zither is constructed for manipulation of pitch and volume.

Students distinguish textures by feel and test sensitivity to touch and temperature changes and they identify objects in odor boxes by smell and map the four taste areas of their tongues.
