My Students

My students need to get their hands dirty and see science up close!

My students are in the 4th and 5th grade and all have special needs.

My school is located in Manhattan and we have a mix of students at our school both racially and economically. Most of the students in my class are economically disadvantaged and do not get to go and see all the museums and great things that NYC has to offer so I need to bring it to them!

My Project

The materials I am requesting will go directly to our Earth science unit. The clay and the volcano building sets will be important in letting them see up close how our Earth really works. The buckets of clay will be used for them to build there own habitats and illustrate the landforms that we are learning about. The volcano's will bring to life a concept they only see in movies. Finally, the books will help to build there scientific vocabulary and provide high interest books on the subject we are learning.

My students need real life experiences to help them bring abstract concepts to life.

These learning experiences will stay with them and allow my students to guide their learning in a more child centered way.
