Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This proposal is for a first grade class science program. I teach in a low income school with many children on free or reduced lunch. They do not get many opportunities to engage in science experiences with their families so their only opportunity is at school. That is why I would like to create a butterfly habitat in the classroom. The kit allows children to watch caterpillars grow, spin silk and form chrysalises... then emerge as butterflies. I want them to get the chance to see the life cycle... from an egg to a beautiful butterfly. To go along with this experience I am asking for a set of science kits that makes hands on discovery very easy. It is a set that includes 8 different units... life cycles, nutrition, the senses, weather and so on. The kits include all of the materials kids need to build skills step by step- from sequencing life cycles to experimenting with magnets. It is designed for up to 4 children to work at once. This center is especially great for non readers, which many of my students are at the beginning of the school year. I would like to thank you in advance for contributing to a wonderful science experience for young children.
