My students need more high-quality children's literature, materials to practice the important concept of retelling with detail, and more hands-on word work for short vowel words.

We are a diverse group of kindergartners in Seattle, WA. Our students come from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, but we all love to learn.
We are cheerful, enthusiastic, and busy in our all-day kindergarten classroom.
Our days are full of literacy, math, science, writing, social studies, movement, and art. Our teacher makes sure to incorporate music, dancing, and play into our learning.
We ask many questions, and want to know as much as we can about every subject. We need to be hands-on and experiential to do our best learning.
My Project
All children need as much exposure as possible to high-quality children's literature. Building a life-long love of literature and the confidence to read begin at home, but can be fanned into flames in a robust and happy kindergarten setting.
Hands-on practice retelling stories or building words with letters are crucial to every child's reading development.
Retelling stories with puppets and flannel-board figures combine multiple learning styles in a relaxing and soothing format, essential for their concept retention. Manipulating letter blocks into various words and word families allows children a non-threatening way to develop spelling skills essential to every super reader.
