My Students

The students at my school love hands-on, tactile learning. They enjoy building and solving problems with their hands. I try to give my students a diverse experience with the visual arts.

My school opened in the late 1990s and "Learning Through The Arts" was one of the founding principles.

Students build sets for their 5th grade musical. we invite local artists to come and share their artwork and work with students. The art room also uses art as a way to explore science, social studies, and literacy from a different lens.

My Project

The students at my school love to learn with hands on projects. Recently their imaginations are captivated by Disney's Tsum Tsum toys. Tsum Tsums are stackable stuffed toys, but I would like to have students create their own Tsum Tsums with clay.

Donating to this project will give my students an experience that will reinforce and expand skills that they need to learn to create successful ceramic artwork while at the same time will fascinate students, because it involves a subject that they are passionate about.

Students will make two pinch pots with clay and combine them into an egg shape. Next, they will add clay to the egg and carve it to create the a character of their own design. I've included some books in the project, so students who finish early, can explore books about ceramic art and artists.
