Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is hungry for books. These third graders are avid readers that can't stop reading and talking about their books. I teach a group of bilingual students that almost went through the entire fiction section of our classroom library, and every week I see them picking everything they can put their hands on.

My students' interests include a variety of genres and topics ranging from animals and natural disasters to mystery and graphic novels.

Our classroom library needs to be replenished with updated high-interest books in Spanish so I can provide my students with the high quality and engaging texts they deserve and that will support their academic development.

My Project

These books and bins will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. Research shows that well organized and children friendly libraries increases the chances that students find, chose and read more books. The book bins are color coded to help my students navigate our bilingual library.

My students will be able to choose books not only based on their interest and reading levels but also by language of preference, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.

They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. This project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
