My Project

Let's get inspired! We are working to inspire future readers and leaders.

I am a literacy teacher at a wonderful elementary school.

Over 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Even though our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds, our students aim to please and to achieve their goals. Many of the students struggle with reading because they are not able to receive help at home due to a variety of circumstances. I want to help all of the K-2 students develop a love of reading, which in turn will improve their academics.

I am requesting a set of the Sunshine Young Readers Award books. The set consists of 15 different books. These books will be read by our kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students. The students will be allowed to independently read the books. The teachers will be encouraged to read some of the books to their entire class. Our school hopes that the students will enjoy a specific author or genre so much, they will seek to read other books written by the same author or in the same genre. We hope to show the students that reading can be fun and enjoyable. This will help motivate them to continue to read independently.

This set of books will encourage three grade levels of students to read. The books will be enjoyed year after year. Our Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students will see how fun reading can be! This will foster a love of reading and learning that will stay with them for a lifetime.
