This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This summer I have the pleasure of teaching 16 upcoming 5th graders. My class will be comprised of energetic, creative, hands-on learners. These students are used to being face-to-face with their teacher for extra help. Unfortunately, these students are home depending on interactive online lessons to teach them the skills they need to be successful.

Most of our families are low-income families.

When my students log into the digital classroom I want them to forget about what's going on at home and focus solely on what's happening in our virtual classroom.

My Project

Education is one of the most valuable gifts that can be provided to inspiring minds. Due to the COVID pandemic, our scholars are forced to take learning from the classroom to their bedroom. This can be a hard adjustment for scholars who are used to interactive lessons.

The goal of this project is to take boring online lessons and transforming them into virtual adventures.

Virtual adventures will allow the teacher to think outside the box and create a learning environment comprised of, adventures, excitement, and tons of fun.

Currently, I have been hosting live lessons using the webcam on my computer. This causes limited mobility. Students have the privilege of watching me sit down during the entire lesson. I try my best to make the lesson fun, but a webcam would definitely change that. For instance, imagine watching your teacher struggle to write on the digital whiteboard. I'm pretty sure you would pay attention to the lesson for about 10-15 seconds without getting bored. Now imagine seeing your teacher dancing, singing, and finding cool creative ways to teach you multiplication. Scenario two is typically what is experienced in my classroom. Our classroom is full of laughter and movement. This webcam will give me the mobility that my students are used to, and increase engagement.

Traditional classrooms are full of manipulatives, and resources that students can use to take them from the classroom to an adventure. Well taking the classroom home has been difficult. This gift card will allow me to purchase some really great digital lessons from Teachers Pay Teachers. This site includes hundreds of resources that will change the entire learning experience for my scholars. Instead of boring worksheets, they will fun interactive projects to work on.
