My Project
The materials we have requested will be used to help children who struggle with socialization and/or anxiety to learn and practice skills in a safe, supportive and engaging environment. Our program provides a free summer therapeutic program consisting of group therapy, hands on activities, tutoring and community outings to practice and reinforce skills. Many of the children who attend our program are unable to financially afford other summer programs and struggle to have positive experiences in other community summer programs due to their various challenges and diagnosis. The children in our program have various diagnosis such as anxiety, selective mutism, Autism Spectrum, Learning Disabilities & ADHD. Some of the children have also witnessed trauma or have lost loved ones, which contributes to anxiety and interpersonal difficulties. Using expressive art therapy, games, incentives and various activities children will be taught skills and given the opportunity to practice. Many of our students are kind and resilient. A goal of our program is to encourage bravery as many of the students struggle with anxiety.
