This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are AWESOME! They are curious and hardworking, and I would like to make this summer school 2025 the best decision they ever made- in coming to summer school. I teach at a vocational and transition center for LAUSD and our students are all 18-22 years of age with moderate to severe disabilities. I have a fun summer lesson agenda for my students that promotes literacy, recreational play, social emotional learning, and language acquisition (speech flash card practice) for my English language learners.

We are a Title I school with very few means to support our students in the arts, and any additional instructional materials that we need to support in language acquisition, therefore I am requesting these materials- to ensure a fun and engaging summer school experience for my students.

Our summer project will envolve students taking poloroid pictures of peers and creating a project called "Me, Myself, and I" where students will create a beautiful wooden frame with their poloroid picture in it, along with an answer key on their interests, hobbies, and career goals. This allows the students to continue to view and see themselves as individuals refecting on their interests and also cued into what their goals are after they leave this vocational school.

We will be having some fun outdoor sensory lessons with the bubble kits. This activity is to promote science learning and social skills. For the final week of Summer school we will be making a beach landscape art project! We would be using the colored paper and cutting and layering the shapes of paper to create a landscape collage.
