Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am so excited to give my students this gift for the end of the school year! As my first year of teaching comes to a close, I've learned so much about my students and there is so much to be grateful for! I would love to gift each of them a water bottle and a book to encourage reading over the summer.

95% of my students do not have access to books at home.

According to research from the National Literacy Trust, as of 2022 1 in 5 children ages 5-8 do not own a book and I know that to be true for most of my students. This breaks my heart as I want to see them succeed. My classroom is made up of children with special needs where most of them are at a disadvantage as they are not reading on grade level. Each and every one of them are so special and beautiful inside and out and I would love to be able to provide them with a book to read over the summer. The Arthur books are near and dear to my class as we have been reading them throughout the school year and watched episodes of Arthur on special occasions. It is something we have bonded over and I would love for them to take home something that would enrich them but also remind them of the fond memories we have made together this school year.

For the water bottles, we have learned a lot about recycling and reducing waste on our planet. My paraprofessional would use her Cricut to write each student's name on their bottle.

I would greatly appreciate all the help I can get to give my students a thoughtful gift for the end of a wonderful school year.
