This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Growing up I was privileged enough to go to summer camp. Some of my best childhood memories come from my time there. I was lamenting that unfortunately, some kids cannot afford to go away to summer camp when I had an idea... Why not bring summer camp to them?! My new dream is to set up a "campfire" right in my classroom. It will have "logs" to sit on and some other cozy nature-themed pillows. Additionally, it will include images and a backdrop mimicking the outdoors.
This area will be used to make class meetings, storytime, and learning fun!
I will be able to interact with my students in a setting just like we would around a campfire. We can circle up and chat or I can read to them. This is just one more way I can make the classroom fun and exciting. Although not all children get to go to summer camp, they all get to go to school. So why not bring some of the fun to them? I might even have to bring my guitar to sing some campfire songs...
