This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The tools needed for Suminagashi, the Japanese art of water marbling, will facilitate my lesson. This lesson will teach students not only about an ancient Japanese art form but will also teach them about the Elements of Art: shape, value, and space. The Principles of Design in this lesson include contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, and rhythm. In addition, I will teach my students the beauty of imperfection and acceptance of the unexpected as the patterns created on the surface of the water are sometimes unpredictable.

This practice can also evoke a sense of calmness and tranquility, as the process of creating Suminagashi requires focus and patience.

I will also set up a Suminagashi Center in my room for early finishers.
