My high school students live in a rural community. Most have to work to help pay the bills. Many do not have a capable guardian so they are left to take care of themselves and their siblings/relatives.
My students have had little to no science/STEM experiences but they are hard workers and are excited to learn new things.
They have enjoyed the labs that we have done so far but since they cannot afford to pay lab fees, they are missing out on important concepts and experiences that they would get to be involved in if there were enough funds.
My Project
I teach at a rural school and our school is at a 70% poverty level. We do not have funds or take up lab fees in order to be able
to purchase lab supplies.
I want to be able to provide an opportunity for my
students to perform authentic labs using appropriate equipment. Lab aprons are a basic necessity for any science lab. If we have aprons, then we will be ready to get busy learning science. Students learn more when given hands-on experiences. The aprons will help us achieve that.
More than half of students from low‑income households
