Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a special education teacher in an urban setting, I feel compelled to provide my students with opportunities that will last a lifetime.
The majority of my students receive free or reduced lunch and come from socioeconomic backgrounds that are limited.
Therefore, I feel it is my duty to share with them a greater vision; my hope is to connect my students with the beauty of nature and to understand that the food we eat is directly provided to us by the natural world and the source of all we consume.
My Project
I am the Department Chairperson of the Academy of Learners program at our high school. The AOL program is what we call our program for students with special needs. I try to go above and beyond for each and every one of my students. We have brought in different student run programs to train our students for their futures after high school. Our next plan is to train our students how to prepare and serve coffee, tea, and toast for our teachers. We are training them on food safety and food preparation and how to work with people. Once they leave us, it will be difficult for them but giving them the skills they need, hopefully it will help them with their future!
I need sugar, creamer, tea, and coffee for our new "cafe" run by our special needs students!
