Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a Title 1 school (low poverty area). The class is an ICT class. We have a combination of general and special education kids. The parents don't have the money to help with classroom supplies. We buy everything for our classroom. My students families have very little money for food and school supplies.

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.

I ask them, "Who is the best 1st class in the whole world?" and they reply, "We are!" I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.

Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.

My Project

With these supplies the students will have the means to help make their learning more successful. The students get very upset if they don't have the supplies they need to learn.

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go.

We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The paper, staplers, markers, and other supplies of the sort will be used by the students, so that they may create books. The organizational baskets, crates, and cups will be placed on the shelves in the back of our classroom and will help the Writer's Workshop process run smoothly from day to day. The markers will be used to create anchor charts that reflect the discussions we have during our mini-lessons. The clipboards and lap desks will be offered to students, so they may work where they are comfortable. The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful writing. By implementing the Writer's Workshop model, my students will begin to see themselves as true authors and illustrators. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long writers. As the teacher, I have done extensive research and reading on Writer's Workshop in the primary grades. Yet I truly need your support to make this a reality. Thanks!
