Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

In my classroom, we use i-Ready, an online program that helps us assess student needs, personalize learning, and track progress throughout the year. This tool enables me to meet my students exactly where they are, providing targeted support that can significantly increase their learning gains.

I am requesting six computers and an outlet tower to enhance online learning during small group instruction for my two second-grade English Language Arts classes, benefiting a total of 50 students.

Currently, our technology resources are limited, with slow, shared computers that hinder their learning experience. Many of my students are performing two grade levels below in reading and literacy, and thirteen of them have IEPs, which adds another layer of complexity to accessing the content.

With reliable computers, my students will be able to access i-Ready lessons daily, allowing them to engage fully with the curriculum and receive tailored instruction from me, as well as support from their special education and intervention teachers. My goal is to ensure that each student has the opportunity to make significant progress towards grade-level proficiency.

What makes my students special is their eagerness to learn, despite the challenges they face. Providing them with the tools they need to succeed will empower them to reach their full potential and cultivate a love for learning and reading.
