My Students

Future engineers, scientists, and mathematicians are the students whom I service in my classroom. As an educator of the middle school community, I have the opportunity and privilege to service students with special needs. The students whom I service have disabilities that include learning disabilities, cognitive deficits, and emotional behavior disorders. In addition, my students are living in high poverty communities where their families are unable to furnish them with school supplies.

Unfortunately, the challenges for my students begin at the start of the school year.

The school community that I service encompasses over 300 students, with a special education population of over 30% whom as a special education teacher, I support and provide classroom instruction. Through out my career as an educator I have had great successes, when my students are provided with the support of “hands on minds on” science and classroom supplies and resources necessary to complete assignments and long term science experiments.

My Project

Having a classroom environment where all my students have their own portfolio folder, a pencil case full of Post-its, pens, colored pencils and erasers on their table, rulers, paper and markers available for use, and other supportive school supply items will allow for a welcoming learning environment. We will create beautiful anchor charts, design construction paper into STEM challenges, craft sticks to engineer new ideas and looseleaf paper to solve algorithms. We will address the basic needs of the students by providing them with the essential school supplies to encourage learning beyond the classroom. The supplies will ensure that all of the students in my class have a fair start to the school year and have the supplies and materials that they need to learn to the best of their abilities.

Access to school supplies will provide my students with multiple learning opportunities.

By having the ability to provide my students with school supplies, the students will be able to analyze case studies using their highlighters, graph scientific data using graph paper and learn the responsibility of managing tools necessary to be successful in education. Your donation will make a huge difference throughout the entire school year for my scientists, engineers and mathematicians in training.
