My Students

Walk into my class and you will see happy three and four year olds building block towers, drawing pictures of family members, stringing beads to make a necklace, and pretending to cook dinner. Play is the method in which my young students explore their environment and learn to get along with other.

My three and four year old pre-k students are talkative, loving, and eager to learn.

They delight me everyday with their insightful comments and curiosity. I teach these precious children at a high-need school in Brooklyn. Although the building is over 100 years old, it is a warm and inviting school where staff care tremendously about our children and families.

My Project

Success does start at the sand table. Children learn social skills as they work with classmates to fill up a big bucket or make a sand castle. They learn how to take turns, decide what activities they will do that day, and play nicely with other children. Digging and pouring sand help develop the children's small muscle control, important for writing. They also learn science concepts such as volume as they discover which bucket holds the most sand, and math concepts as they count how many scoops it takes to fill a bucket.

Your donations will help to buy us a brand new sand table, which will help my students develop foundational skills in math and science as well as social skills which will help them in school and beyond.
