My Students

My students are thoughtful and curious, and interested in learning new things. Students at my school come from a high poverty level, which results in a high percentage of free and reduced lunch. Our school is also a personalized learning school; the idea of personalized learning is that ultimately each student moves forward at their own pace and at their own style so they can work on their strengths, but also work on their weaknesses. Personalized learning also involves using technology to teach students.

Learning is our passion, but for my students in my special education class, this can be difficult without additional materials support their various communication styles and learning needs.

We have no budget to buy classroom materials and often as educators, we have to buy supplies ourselves. In order for my students to reach their full potential, I want to make sure I have interactive activities available for them to help them succeed in learning and practicing communication skills.

My Project

I want to help my students get fresh supplies and sensory items as we enter the second half of the school year while learning at home. I want to provide each student with a pencil box that includes pencils, a pencil sharpener, crayons, glue bottles, and glue sticks. They will also receive new dot painters which we use weekly while playing Bingo with our monthly vocabulary words and for our fine motor Friday activities. I would also like them to have the opportunity to get new sensory materials including sensory balls and liquid sensory viewers. The kids will have the opportunity to use these supply materials for their daily work, as well as the sensory materials for fidget items.
