My Students

My students are special because, in spite of the circumstances, I still see life-changing potential in them. Their eyes say, "I'm interested!" and their hands say, "I can do it." Showing up for class time after time says, "I want to!" while their circumstances say, "I need to."

Many of the students at my school are not in an academic position to attend college, even if they aspire to do so.

The students at my school are multicultural and diverse in every sense of the word. A large percentage of the students receive free lunch and must use public transportation to get to the campus.

Since I teach a skill, my students are not in a financial position to obtain the necessary tools needed to practice the skills being taught.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will give the students a greater appreciation for the work they perform. For example, a student in my 1st period will style a mannequin, only to have that same mannequin re-styled by a student in my 3rd period class. Therefore, the work performed in 1st period is never displayed. We need makeup manuals, a hair dye brush and bowl set, hair styling clips and other items.

A sense of pride and ownership is taken when students can see their work on display for all to see.

My students are in need of printed materials to show modern techniques, aside from the textbook used for the cosmetology program training. The styling tools and aids will be used by students who cannot afford to purchase the required cosmetology kit. The mannequins will be assigned to give students the opportunity to practice hands-on with at-home learning.

These materials would afford my students the opportunity to show their knowledge, skill, and ability during open house, club day, recruitment, and local, regional, and state competitions.
