This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am moving to a new classroom in a few days. I have many Spanish Bilingual books that I want to bring into the classroom from my current classroom since it is becoming an English only classroom and will not need the Spanish books. However, I don't have enough bookshelves.

I want to store the books in a visually pleasing and easily accessible way so that the students can browse and pick their favorite books.

Students read daily during our reading workshop. I teach a short lesson on a reading skill and then students read from books that they have picked and have accessible in their book bags. Each week students change the books that they have in their book bags. The students pick 10 books at their reading level. I have them choose 5 non fiction books and 5 fiction books. They can take one or two books home to read for homework each day. In our classroom library the books are in bins labeled and grouped by topic and sometimes reading level to make it easier for students to choose the right books. I need bookshelves that can house all of the bins that we currently have plus new ones. The more books students have to choose from, the easier it is for them to find the books that they will enjoy and that will motivate them to read more.
