Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This last year was my first year teaching in 1st grade after 17 years in grades no lower than 3rd - and the last 7 of those 17 were in 5th grade. It was a huge change and, not gonna lie, I was terrified. This year, though, has been such an amazing experience. I learned so much from my students while, I hope, they were learning from me! As the year has progressed and many things we did were trial-and-error, I learned a lot of unexpected things. They need a lot of strong routines, tools have to change for their tiny hands, organization is not their strong suit, and things move at lightning speed!

I don't want my students to miss out on a moment of learning.

Especially for things like markers that are not effective, or not being able to find something they need for the activity. I also learned that the teacher tools have to vary as well and I was not prepared for the investment of resources necessary to teach all the firsty-things. The tools and items requested will really help to keep both the kids and the teacher well-prepared for a day full of learning, moving with the flow of the day, and optimizing each minute.
