This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend an extended-day program offering rigorous activities that support academic achievement and character development. All students receive free lunch with living conditions under unique challenges. Our school has a population of over 75% of students whose first language is other than English. With this aside, we are fortunate to have students that are determined to exceed expectations and prevail to their highest potential. There is an opportunity to help my students through holistic reaching of the entire community. Participating in extended school activities allows for meaningful engagement with positive influences to help children excel
My Project
Students at our academy are encouraged to work rigorously in AP (Advanced Placement) courses regardless of their prior knowledge or learning levels. This helps students to push well beyond their self-provided limits and into an engaging system of learning that are far reaching. They are all granted an opportunity to excel alongside national peers with instruction that is based on uplifting marginalized communities as well as promoting disadvantaged populations. Our students are unable to afford study materials, holding them back from having an advantage on the end of course state exam. This project will help them with an equitable learning experience. My students will need resources to help navigate an independent learning environment in the event of another shut down. Students will have their own individual study material that they can use to go at their own pace to combat differing schedules whether students are now working to support their families in the Pandemic or missing school days due to Covid related illness and impact. The standards covered include SS.9-12.US.32. Examine the changing roles, impact, and power of political leaders, parties, and voting blocs over time.
