My Students

My students don't have many opportunities to explore their creative potential - especially when it involves the combination of both art and technology.

My students have all been classified with either "emotional disturbance" or "autism" during their academic careers and presently carry IEPs in order to achieve an optimal learning experience.

All of the instruction and attention given at our school is individualized in order to foster the development of our students as they pursue a functional level of independence.

My Project

Over the course of the year, we will work with both photography and videography in the classroom. Students will use the backdrop and lighting kit to regularly make public service announcement-style presentations that deal with social issues that are relevant to their lives, such as bullying, crime, poverty and drugs. Using these materials, they will also prepare music videos and documentaries as a culminating project to showcase the skills they have learned.

Students will have opportunities to present topics of their choosing in a photographic or video format while receiving technical training with a variety of tools.

These skills will not only empower students to be more expressive and creative, but they will continue to be useful in high school and beyond.
