Our school is in a poverty stricken area with free breakfast for all students and free lunch for 85% of the kids. The girls and boys in my art class have been begging me to teach them how to sew. Unfortunately we do not have a sewing machine and these students do not have a lot of patience having been born to crack addicted mothers, alcoholics etc. which results in organic physical problems for them. However I feel they could be successful on a good machine that adjusts well to all kinds of fabrics which we can get for free. Sewing skills are excellent abilities for these students to acquire. Having a sewing machine to work on could lead them into a small business of their own where they could get support and training and provide jobs for others. Many of our students are interested in business and fashion design. They would be ecstatic to be able to do this. We would need a sewing machine and a serger to start this type of program. I will spend my own $ for everything else...just need the sewing machine and serger.This equipment would really help some needy and deserving students get a start in an area that holds great interest for them. Thank you for listening to our plea.
