My Students

I work with an energetic and enthusiastic group of 7th and 8th-grade students. These students are a product of an advanced technological society, a society that was not around when I was in junior high. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, these students have navigated uncharted waters dealing with technology that they had not used before; in ways, they had never used before but never once said they could not handle it. These students were able to go from an in-person classroom to a virtual classroom in the blink of an eye because of their ability to adapt. This is no easy feat.

When I think of my students, the word that comes to my mind is resilience.

These students have gone through a whirlwind of changes due to the pandemic and I hope that they never have to go through something like it again. These students will be better prepared for their futures as a result of the pandemic and their ability to adapt so quickly to the ever-changing society in which they live. The drive and determination that my students exhibit each day assure me that the future is bright for each of these students through their resiliency.

My Project

The purpose of requesting the Panasonic Lumix camera is to facilitate a newly added Student Government class at our school. Elected by their peers, the student government members will be able to create wholesome, quality, and educational videos which will be posted on our school website, social media pages and viewed among the other classes in the school.

Student government members will be able to develop and create content that will engage all students to have school pride and be proud to be part of the school.

As student government members develop their skills in creating video content, not only through the presentation aspect but also in writing scripts and directing the videos, they will also be able to deepen their understanding of the many benefits of video technology and how it unites us all as a single student body. Which has the ability to guide them to a future career in the media or entertainment industry.

I envision the student government creating weekly videos, interviews, and tutorials not just for students, but also for the parents of students, the community, and for future students. As we are still navigating through unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the student government will be able to use this camera to create videos that can be shared and keep the entire student body connected, if our school must move to a virtual classroom again.
