Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school's goal is to foster a multi-sensory educational experience and environment for our students, taking into account their diverse needs, interests, abilities, and access. Our students are special because they are among the most vulnerable populations in NY. They are students, a special education district in NYC to promotes positive self-awareness and provides social-emotional support among students to develop academic, communication, and life skills to maximize individual student growth and independence.

Our students are wonderful and creative, and they are learning to be strong members of their communities.

Faculty and students create a safe and positive learning environment by adhering to the principles of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS). ​​PBIS is based on the idea that teaching and acknowledging positive student behavior can reduce the need for discipline and create a more productive and safe learning environment. PBIS schools use a multi-tiered approach to prevention, developing individualized and targeted interventions and supports. When students follow our PBIS expectations they will earn points and the opportunity to "shop" in our school PBIS School Store.

PBIS rewards can positively impact student learning by reinforcing desirable behaviors and creating a more focused and positive learning environment. It will improve students' behavior and focus and increase motivation and engagement by recognizing and celebrating students' achievements, and building positive relationships and trust which in turn can make students more comfortable in class, increasing their willingness to engage. PBIS encourages students to develop self-management skills by helping them recognize and repeat positive behaviors.
