Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in our classroom are very special. We have many English language learners in our classroom who have tried and continue to try to overcome the language barriers they currently deal with when learning a new language.

We have a diverse classroom where students come from many backgrounds, but when in the classroom they come together to work as one.

Many of our students are also students with disabilities who benefit from having multiple resources available to them in order to achieve their best selves. The students work best when they are motivated and engaged in various activities throughout the classroom that meet each of their individual needs. We believe it is essential to expose all students to various means of learning and different modalities that can foster a love for learning.

My Project

STEM activities give students the opportunity to explore various areas they may be previously unfamiliar with. Through the purchase of these materials, students in my school will be exposed to areas they may not have been exposed to or have knowledge of.

There is an underrepresentation of minorities in careers that can be fostered through STEM activities.

This could be related to the lack of exposure. Exposing these students to various opportunities and career options through STEM activities at an early age will help to fill the gap of underrepresentation in these fields.

Students learn best when they are exposed to hands-on activities and introduced to opportunities they may not know they have. By exposing students in the early elementary grades to STEM and STEAM activities, we hope to close the gap and see more diversity in the fields associated with STEM and STEAM.
