Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I would love to give my students access to reading materials that will encourage them to read in Spanish. My IB students spend their school days reading with a specific educational purpose, which is important, but I also see value in reading for pleasure. For this reason I would like to begin my classes with 10 minutes of quiet reading a book of their choice. To run this activity successfully, I need to give them access to a variety of books that cover topics interesting to them. In addition to the topics, I need to be mindful of the level of difficulty these chosen books have. The books I have selected have been written by educators with the high school Spanish language learner in mind, therefore they are the appropriate comprehensible input for this group of students.

These books can be enjoyed by students in my classes this year and beyond.
