How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed? How do we reach students who are exposed to violence, hunger, chaos, and all kinds of trauma? My students live in a housing project area that is known as the poorest area in the city. These children want to learn and they deserve to learn. Yet, I often do not have the materials I need to help them overcome the deficits that come with poverty and stress.
My project is requesting two Apple iPad Air 2s and two OtterBox - Defender Series Cases to protect these devices. There are so many exciting apps and educational games available to help build math and literacy skills that my students will have access to with the Apple iPads.
Many of you would laugh at the outdated desktops that my students have in the classroom.
The sound quality is so poor and they often refuse to work properly. These Apple iPads will expose my students to so many exciting technological activities.
Creative projects are numerous with the iPad. I can’t wait to have the students create their own online books, complete with student-generated text and images. We do not have a listening station in the classroom, the iPads can be used to listen to books online. My students need exposure to varied literacy activities, and the technology will give them this opportunity.
All students can learn, but not all students have the tools to learn! Most of my students do not have computers or Wi-Fi in their homes. Please consider giving my students the gift of technology.
