My Students

I have a great bunch of second graders who really want to have their voices heard, literally! My students are learning how to share their thoughts and ideas with the entire class. They are learning how to have respectful conversations with their classmates. My students are becoming experts at having good habitats of discussion. They are understanding that it is okay to disagree with another person in a respectable way.

When I see the smiles of success on my students' faces, I am reminded why I became an educator.

Each of my students have different learning styles and needs. My students are learning that it is okay to have the wrong answer because that is how we grow our brains. I have taught my students to have a growth mindset and to learn from the mistakes they make. At this point in the school year, I have seen their confidence levels improve. They are becoming more aware of their own learning. If they are struggling with something, they are trying to be brave and ask for help. However, when they feel they have been successful they are proud to celebrate their accomplishments.

My Project

Have you ever been curious about how things work? Well, my second graders are! They want to learn more about how machines and other things function. My second graders would really benefit from using the Lego STEM kit to understand how things work in our world. They will be able to engineer their own designs to understand how inventors and engineers help to solve daily problems in our lives. They can also create existing machines by using the picture cards provided in the engineering kit. Reading nonfiction books will help my students learn more about people and animals. Finally, it is really important to me that my students learn about how to be healthy by reading books. Reading daily is extremely important for all students.
